TULSA, Okla.—Emanuel Brighiu earned an at-large bid to the men's qualifying singles bracket Sunday at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Horned Frog senior split a pair of matches in the pre-qualifying draw on the second day of competition.
Brighiu, the top seed in the pre-qualifying draw, began the day by posting an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wichita State's Adrian Chermaci in Round 3 action before being bounced out of the bracket by Virginia's Justin Shane in Round 4 by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-3. Shane was one of the 16 players in the bracket seeded Nos. 17-32.
Following Sunday's competition, TCU learned that Brighiu received an at-large bid to the tournament's qualifying draw as one of the "Lucky Losers" based on his status as the top seed in the pre-qualifying bracket. Brighiu will continue play Monday with the start of the singles qualifying draw. TCU doubles teams begin competition on Tuesday in the doubles qualifying bracket.
