Brighiu Moves On in Singles at ITA All-American

D'NOVO ITA ALL-AMERICAN DRAWS/RESULTS
TULSA, Okla.—Senior Emanuel Brighiu advanced to the third round of the men's pre-qualifying singles bracket Saturday at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Brighiu, the top seed in the pre-qualifying draw, opened the tournament by posting a second-round victory over Bradley's Ashton Kalhorn, 6-2, 6-3. Brighiu received an opening-round bye. Next up for the Frog senior is a Sunday morning third-round match against Wichita State's Adrian Chermaci.
Brighiu was the only one of seven Frogs in action Saturday who advanced past the second round. Junior Paul Chappell, the only TCU player to see action in the opening round, posted a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Iowa's Nikita Zotov prior to falling to Duke's Jared Pinsky in Round 2, 6-4, 6-4. Pinsky was one of the 16 players seeded Nos. 17-32.
Five other Frogs began play in Round 2 after receiving opening-round byes. Senior Zach Nichols dropped a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision to Florida's Andrew Butz. Three others also dropped three-set affairs: sophomore Sören Goritzka to Wichita State's Matheus Pereira (6-3, 3-6, 6-3); junior Slah Mbarek to Tennessee's Edward Jones (6-2, 5-7, 6-2); and sophomore Santiago Centeno to Bradley's Juan Diego Cuadrado (6-4, 2-6, 6-4). Senior Christopher Price fell in straight sets to Illinois State's Timon Reichelt, 6-4, 6-4.
Brighiu continues play in the pre-qualifying draw Sunday at 9 a.m. Doubles play begins for TCU in the doubles qualifying draw on Monday, Oct. 4. Complete results and updated draws are available at Tulsa's official athletic web site via the link at the top of this page.
