Frogs Finish Play at Austin ITF Futures Event

AUSTIN, Texas—TCU completed competition at the Rogers Beasley Volvo Hill Country Classic, an ITF Futures event, Sunday. Junior Slah Mbarek and sophomore Sören Goritzka were eliminated from the qualifying bracket after suffering tough three-set losses.
Goritzka dropped a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 match to Derek Difazio in second-round action Sunday, while Mbarek, the draw's No. 6 seed, was bounced from the bracket by Mico Santiago in a three-set thriller, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10). Both Frogs opened the tournament Saturday with victories. Teammates Zach Nichols and Paul Chappell bowed out of the draw with losses in the opening round.
TCU will return to the Metroplex for another ITF Futures event next Saturday in Mansfield, Texas. The Frogs will use the tournament as another tune-up for the upcoming annual ITA Regional Championships, which will begin in two weeks (Oct. 23-26) in College Station, Texas.
