FORT WORTH, Texas - With the 2010 season starting Friday, GoFrogs.com recently sat down with senior captain and 2009 ITA All-American Nina Munch-Soegaard to get her thoughts on entering her final season as a Horned Frog.
What are your goals for your final semester at TCU?
Personally, my goals are to reach the NCAA Singles Championships, and hopefully make the quarterfinals or semifinals since I lost in the first round last year because of my shoulder injury.
What are the team goals for this season?
As far as the team goals, we definitely want to return to the NCAA Team Championships and get into the Sweet 16.
As the lone senior on the roster, what do you see your role for this team as?
I just want to be a role model for all of the girls. I've been here the longest and have the most experience, so I want to try and help them as best as I can and bring us together as a team this year.
Is there anything that you have learned from previous seniors that you will use this year to help lead the team?
My freshman year, Ana Cetnik was really great at just bringing the team together and cheering on our players. She was always there for us. Some of the other seniors were always making sure that we stayed united on the road and that is something that I think we will need this year.
The team is ranked No. 27 entering the 2010 spring season, what does the team need to do to finish higher in the rankings?
We have a really tough schedule so we need start our season well this weekend against Vanderbilt and then possibly Tennessee or Texas. If we just take it one match at a time and we do well, we can really improve our ranking quickly.
The team will face another tough schedule in 2010. What does the team need to do to be successful?
I think that if we can just see that even though we are playing against some big time schools that are ranked higher than us, we are a really good team this season and we can compete with the best of them.
How has head coach Jefferson Hammond shaped your career at TCU?
He has really been a great coach and he has always been there for our team. He loves all of the girls and he would do anything for us. He's really great at working with us and helping us, not just on the tennis court, but also with our school and helping us see what comes first.
You have had a lot of great moments at TCU, which one stands out the most?
All of the trips with the girls and winning conference last season are some of the memories that will always stand out for me. I have always enjoyed all of the traveling and opportunities that we had to be together as a team.
What are your plans after you have used up your eligibility and graduate from TCU?
I am going to try to play professionally once I finish at TCU, so I will just start to grind it out on the tennis court again.
