
Frogs Stay Perfect, Defeat Grambling State, 3-0

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-20) victory over Grambling State Saturday afternoon at the University Rec Center. Kristen Hester led all hitters with 10 kills, while Hannah Fort pitched in with eight kills and a career-high five blocks.As a group, the Frogs hit .312 in the match, led by Kristen Hester's .562 (10-1-16) percentage. Meghan Horio posted a match-high 10 digs and Megan Munce dished out 29 assists.
After falling behind early, the Frogs were able to work their way out of the hole thanks to three kills from Kourtney Edwards that evened the set at five. Two straight attack errors by the Tigers gave the Frogs the lead at 7-6.
With a 10-8 lead, Irene Hester stepped behind the service line and reeled off 10 points to build a commanding 21-8 lead. Blocks from Sloane Sunstrum, Fort and Munce aided the cause as did kills from the trio. A denial on the outside by Edwards and Kylie Pont sealed the 25-10 victory.
Another solid effort in the second set by the Frogs helped them build a 2-0 match lead. Pont tied the set at five and Kristen Hester served the Frogs to a 7-5 lead. Victoria Hernandez helped build the lead with strong serving and kills from Sunstrum and Fort. A block by Kristen Hester and Munce gave the Frogs a four-point advantage at 14-10.
Grambling State kept the set close, but each time the Tigers would rally, the Frogs would answer. Pont served the Frogs to a five-point lead helped along by a Fort blast in the middle. Leading, 21-16, Irene Hester would close out the set on a 4-0 run to lock up the 25-16 win. Fort and Munce closed out the set with the Frogs sixth block of the afternoon.
A tighter affair in the third set saw the Frogs eke out the 25-20 victory for the match win. The Frogs faced a five-point deficit at 11-6, but climbed out of the hole to tie the game at 16. Sunstrum dropped in three kills and Fort mixed in an ace to help the Frogs get back in the set.
With the set tied a 19, Fort put the Frogs on top to stay. An ace by Irene Hester spurred a 3-0 run and Fort served out the match. Makenzie Smith's first collegiate kill gave the Frogs the match victory.
TCU (2-0) will play Loyola Marymount (2-0) for the tournament championship tonight at 7 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
