Below is what GoFrogs.com believes to be the No. 1 play of 2008.
Following a program-best 13-3-2 regular season record, TCU traveled to Las Vegas, Nev., for a first round match-up against San Diego State at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament.
In the 31st minute, Jordan Calhoun put TCU on the board first, punching the ball past SDSU off a cross by Lizzy Karoly. The goal for Calhoun marked her 15th goal of the season and moved her into first-place all-time in TCU history in goals scored for a single-season.
Following halftime, the Aztecs tied the match at 1-1 when Cat Walker got behind the Horned Frog defense and beat keeper Kelsey Walters from the left side of the box.
The No. 1 Play Of 2008
The Horned Frogs connected on two shots during the first overtime before Jackie Torda gave TCU its first win in post-season play in program history under head coach Dan Abdalla in the 98th minute of the match. On the play, Katie Taylor sent a ball deep into the SDSU box, but it deflected off an Aztec defender before Katie Runyon was able to send the ball to Torda, who laid in it past the SDSU goalkeeper to secure the victory.
The Significance
Simply put, the overtime goal by Torda is the biggest goal in program history. Not only did it give TCU its first win in post-season play under Abdalla, but it put an exclamation point to the most memorable season in the program's 23 years. The play was typical of the 2008 season, TCU battled through adversity and found a way to win in the end.
