DALLAS--TCU men's tennis assistant coach Jason Marshall earned a semifinal victory Friday to advance to the final round of the main doubles draw at the Men's Challenger of Dallas, a USTA Pro Circuit event held this week at Dallas' T Bar M Racquet Club.
Marshall and American teammate Patrick Briaud posted another tight win Friday, this time a 6-7, 7-5, 10-7 decision over the American pairing of Scott Oudesma and Phillip Simmonds. Marshall and Briaud advanced to the semifinals with a walkover win Tuesday that followed a first-round victory Monday, 5-7, 7-6(1), 10-5, over Takao Suzuki (Japan) and Marcio Torres (Brazil).
Saturday's finals matchup will feature Marshall and Briaud squaring off against the winner of Hiroki Kondo (Japan)/Ashutosh Singh (India) vs. Prakash Amritraj (India)/Rajeev Ram (United States).
"We played two good players today who were two of the top juniors to come out of the U.S. a few years ago," Marshall said. "They were really big servers. We didn't play that great, but we were able to play well enough on the big points. That was the story of the match."
The tournament marks a chance for both Marshall and Briaud to play in front of a home crowd. Marshall hails from Dallas, while Briaud is a native of College Station, Texas.
"I've haven't really done that great in this tournament the past few years in front of my home crowd," Marshall said. "The fans have really been behind us, and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night."
