MANSFIELD, Texas - Nationally ranked TCU used a 6-2 advantage in Western events on Saturday to upend No. 9 Fresno State, 10-6."I was so proud of this team today. We got our Equitation on the Flat team back on track, which was awesome," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "The Western team was just incredible today with a very different lineup today. Lyndsi Hardin stepped up and brought home her first MVP, while Chloe Baker once again in the clean-up position captured an MVP in Reining."
Overall, the No. 8 Horned Frogs outscored the Bulldogs, 1,119-1,117. The Frogs, who claimed both the Reining and Horsemanship MVP honors on Saturday at Fieldstone Park, battled Fresno State to a 4-4 draw in English competition.
In Equitation on the Flat, the Purple and White got out of the gates fast, downing Fresno State, 3-1. Junior Jessica Hagen tallied the high score for the Frogs in the event, defeating Nicole Roworth, 84-81. Milana Trimino and Victoria Lee also scored a point for TCU to secure the 3-1 decision.
Juli Skobel, a Houston native, carried the Frogs in Equitation over Fences, winning 83-82 over Jessica Kissell.
Sophomore Lyndsi Hardin captured MVP accolades in Horsemanship, upending Sammie Jo Stone, 75.5-68.5. Chloe Baker and Ashley Aikman followed with victories, downing Kelsi Fisher and Madison Silver, respectively, to give the Frogs a 3-1 victory in the event.
In Reining, Baker continued her impressive showing on Saturday, winning 68.5-60 over Elizabeth Thomasian to capture MVP accolades and lead TCU to a 3-1 victory in the event. Senior Carrie von Uhlit and freshman Kolby Simonson collected the final two points on Saturday afternoon. Von Uhlit defeated Becca Barnes, 69.5-65.5, while Simonson downed Keri Blackledge, 65.5-64.5.
TCU will next be in action on Oct. 24 at New Mexico State.
