FORT WORTH, Texas - Jordan Calhoun netted her eighth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as TCU dropped a 2-1 double overtime contest to No. 7 Texas Friday night in front of 2,161 spectators at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.Following a goal by the Longhorns Kylie Doniak, junior Lizzy Karoly tried to tie the match at 1-1 in the 45th minute, but watched as her shot was saved by Texas goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger right before the break.
TCU came out of halftime firing on all cylinders as Calhoun found the back of the net off an assist by Jackie Torda. On the play, Torda played the ball into the box from about 25 yards out allowing the freshman to place the ball into the upper right corner of the net past Pfenninger. With the goal, Calhoun has now found the back of the net in six of TCU's eight contests this fall.
The Horned Frogs, who pressured the Longhorns for nearly the entire match, looked to have put the game away in the 64th minute when redshirt freshman Katie Taylor blasted a shot towards the goal from inside the box, but the ball sailed wide to keep the score knotted at 1-1. Finally, Karoly tried to secure the victory in the waning moments of the second half, but the Longhorns' Pfenninger stopped the shot to send the match into overtime.
During the first overtime period, TCU remained on the attack as three different Horned Frogs recorded shots close to the net, including sophomore Nikki Wilbur who rocketed a shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but had her shot hit the post.
In the final overtime session, senior Caroline Starns looked to have won the game for the Purple and White when she had an open lane to the goal, but watched as her shot sailed wide. Finally, UT's Stephanie Logterman scored the deciding goal in the 106th minute of the match just beating TCU goalkeeper Kelsey Walters off an assist by Courtney Gaines.
On Friday, TCU played in front of the second largest crowd ever in TCU history at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. The Horned Frogs and Longhorns were almost identical in shot attempts for the match with Texas holding a slight 21-15 advantage.
TCU, who is now 6-1-1 on the year, was led on offense by Karoly who posted three shots, including two on goal, while Torda recorded five shots and one assist. On defense, Walters came up with several key stops, while saving eight balls. UT's Pfenninger had three saves on Friday night.
The Horned Frogs will next be in action on Sept. 26 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Start time for the match is set for 7 p.m. in Fort Worth. TCU's match originally scheduled for Sunday against Sam Houston State has been cancelled.
