
TCU Wins its First Match of the 2008-09 season

TCU had a successful season-opener as they beat both West Texas A&M and Texas Tech. The Horned Frogs beat both schools 12-7.
The Frogs swept the MVP board as Taylor Frederick earned one in Equitation over Fences. Frederick, the lone freshman to receive an MVP, scored a 75 which was the highest of the day. Fellow freshman Victoria Lee also earned an Equitation point for TCU with a score of 71.
Sophomore Tassie Munroe competed in both Hunt Seat events. On the Flat, Munroe had the highest score, earning a 78. Lauren Quiroz took home the event's MVP award after scoring a 76.
Jessica Hagen also competed in both Hunt Seat events, where her best score came from the Flat with a 71.
In Horsemanship, TCU beat Texas Tech 3-2 and tied WTAMU 2-2-1. TCU's Kelsey Huffman earned her first collegiate MVP with an impressive score of 77.5. Senior Chloe Baker also earned a point for the Frogs after scoring a 75.
Of the four events the Frogs did best in the Reining as they swept WTAMU 5-0 and Texas Tech 4-0-1. Huffman also competed in the Reining where she earned the highest score of the match with a 74.5. Baker earned the event's MVP honors after scoring a 73.
Veteran senior Carrie von Uhlit and sophomore Jennifer Neel also competed in the Reining where they scored scores of 73.5 and 70.5 respectively.
On the day, TCU debuted five new riders, including freshman Courtney Chown who received a 73.5 in Horsemanship.
TCU will be back in action Sept. 27 as they head to Waco to compete in the Baylor Tournament. TCU has its work ahead of them as they face three teams from last year's National Championships, including their I-35 rival Baylor.
