Horned Frogs Garner Runner-Up Laurels at Kansas Invitational

The TCU men's golf team concluded its first tournament of the season with silver medal accolades on Tuesday (Sept. 16) at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
The Horned Frogs notched a 54-hole tally of 873 - including a team score of 293 in the third and final round. The Purple and White finished eight strokes back of UC Davis for the tournament title after the Frogs and Aggies headed into competition tied for second place at the conclusion of two rounds of action.
"There are a lot of good things that we can take out of this tournament," said head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "Obviously - we came here to win the tournament, but I think that there were a lot of positives that we can build on for our next tournament. I'm really happy with the way that Travis, James and Tom played in the final round today."
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas | Paschal H.S.) was the Frogs' top finisher as the Fort Worth product recorded a top-10 showing in his first tournament of the season with a seventh-place performance. For the tournament - Woolf recorded a score of 218 (76-70-72) with a team-best 72 coming in the final round of action.
James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas | Zionsville H.S.) wrapped up his first tournament of the season with a 12th-place showing after posting a score of 220 (75-72-73) while Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South H.S.) notched a 17th-place finish with a score of 221 (73-76-72).
Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas | James Bowie H.S.) notched a three-round tally of 222 (73-70-79) en route to securing top-20 honors with an 18th-place finish while TCU newcomer Johan de Beer (Johannesburg, South Africa) tied for 22nd overall with a score of 223 (73-74-76) - including a 76 in the final round of action.
The Frogs will return to the links at the University of Hartford Hawks on September 28th at the Ballymeade Country Club in North Falmouth, Mass.
