Horned Frogs Off to Strong Start at Kansas Invitational

The TCU men's golf team got off to a strong start to the 2008-09 campaign as the Horned Frogs are currently in second place after 36 holes of action at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
The Purple and White recorded a 36-hole tally of 580 - which ties them with UC Davis for second place and puts them one stroke behind the tournament leader South Dakota State. The Frogs notched a score of 294 in the first round then recorded a tournament-best 286 in the second round of competition.
Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) was the Frogs' top golfer after the first day of action as the TCU senior notched a two-round tally of 143 after shooting a 73 in round one and 70 on the second set of 18 holes. Ormand is a pair of strokes behind the tournament leader Trent Peterson of South Dakota State - who stands at 141 after Monday's action.
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) tied for 10th overall after the first round with a score of 146 (76-70) - including tying a team-best 70 in the second round of action.
James Sacheck (The Woodlands, Texas/Zionsville H.S.) finished the first day of action tied for 18th overall with a score of 147 - which tied him with teammate Johan de Beer (Johannesburg, South Africa) after 36 holes of competition. Sacheck fired a 75 in the first round followed by a 72 in round two while de Beer notched two consistent scores of 73 and 74 for the Frogs.
Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South H.S.) concluded the first day of competition tied for 30th overall with a score of 149 - including a 73 on the first 18 holes and 76 on the second 18 holes.
The Frogs will begin the third and final of action one shot out of the tournament lead at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., at the Alvamar Golf Club on Tuesday (Sept. 16).
