
Sacheck advances to National Championships; Frogs finish 19th overall

James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.) will make his first-ever NCAA National Championship appearance as the TCU junior defeated Charles Ford of Tennessee to earn the final individual spot at the 2008 NCAA Division I Central Regional Championship on Saturday (May 17) at The Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Zionsville, Ind., standout tied for tied for ninth overall with a three-round score of 220 (74-76-70) - including tying a season-best 70 in the final round of action. Joining Derek Tolan of Colorado - Sacheck defeated Ford in a two-hole playoff to secure his first trip to the NCAA National Championships.
The Frogs - who appeared in their 19th consecutive NCAA Central Regional Championships - recorded a score of 310 on Saturday afternoon en route to finishing with a 54-hole total of 914 (302-302-310). The Purple and White concluded the tournament in a tie with the University of Arkansas and Wichita State for the top-20 showing in Columbus, Ohio.
Three Frogs finished in a tie for 89th position as the trio finished with a three-round score of 232 - including each notching a score of 80 in the final round. Franklin Corpening (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.), Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) and Jordan Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington H.S.) each finished in 89th place while Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) finished one-stroke behind his teammates with a score of 233 en route to finishing with a score of 233 (76-76-81).
Wake Forest University led from start to finish as the Demon Deacons notched a score of 879 to claim the title at the NCAA Division I Central Regional Championships while Oklahoma State (889), Illinois (891), Florida (894) and Louisville (894) rounded out the top-five.
Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State captured the tournament title at the NCAA Division I Central Regional Championships with a one-over-par score of 214 while Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow and Robert Rohanna of Penn State tied for runner-up laurels.
While the Frogs' season came to a conclusion - Sacheck will return to the links at the NCAA Division I National Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., on May 28th.
