Final Stats | TCU vs. UT-Pan American
The Frogs got on the board in the bottom of the first as the first five men reached base. Matt Carpenter drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Ben Carruthers for the first run of the game. Chris Ellington followed with a single to drive in Bryan Kervin and Clint Arnold, giving the Frogs a 3-0 lead. Ellington later scored on a Bronc throwing error. Jimmie Pharr singled to bring home Carpenter and also scored on an error by the UTPA shortstop.
TCU ended the inning with six runs on four hits. The six runs were the most in an inning for the Frogs since April 18, when they put a six spot up on BYU in the second inning.
UT Pan-Am got on the board a half inning later, as the Broncs strung together four straight hits, plating two men in the process. The highlight of the inning was a double by Nick Spears to the left center gap, as TCU left fielder Steve Ellington just missed the catch when the ground caused the ball to pop out of his glove.
Steve Ellington provided a source of power for the Frogs on Sunday, hitting his first and second home runs of his career. His first came in the bottom of the third on a line drive to left, with his second coming in the bottom of the fifth, a long fly ball to left center.
TCU is now 11-3 in games that the team hits a home run. Sunday marked the third time a Frog has hit two home runs in a game this season, with the last time coming on April 12 against UNLV when Matt Carpenter accomplished the feat.
Carpenter got into the act as he hit his team leading sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. He later doubled and scored in the seventh and added a sacrifice fly RBI in the eighth to finish the day 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
TCU finished their offensive explosion in the bottom of the eighth when Carruthers led off the frame with a triple. Nestor Gonzalez walked and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a sac fly by Carpenter, Eric Givens collected a pinch-hit RBI single to center, scoring Gonzalez, capping the Frog offense at thirteen runs.
Starter Sean Hoelscher (7-2) picked up his sixth straight win, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out one over three innings.
TCU reliever Taylor Cragin tossed his longest outing of the season, going three innings allowing no runs on three hits while striking out three. His three strikeouts are a season high. Cragin has now gone eight straight appearances without allowing a run. Dillon Farish pitched a scoreless inning, while Eric Marshall closed out the game, allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work.
The Frogs go for the series sweep Monday as it wraps up its home portion of the regular season with an early start time of 11 a.m. as it is Fort Worth ISD day. Seth Garrison will get the start for the Frogs.
