The TCU men's golf program finished sixth overall in its third spring tournament of the season after a one-under-par, 54-hole score of 863 at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Tuesday at the Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
Sophomore Jordan Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington H.S.) notched his second top-20 performance of the spring season as the TCU newcomer tied for 12th overall with a three-round tally of 212 (71-68-73) - which allowed him to finish four-under-par for the tournament. It was the best tournament finish of the season for the Fort Worth standout, and he also notched his best round of the season with a 68 in the second round of action.
"Jordan played extremely well," said head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "He played extremely smart, and when he was in trouble, he was able to finish with a bogey and avoid the big numbers. He had a good short game going, read the course well and continued to improve his all-around game."
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) - who entered the day tied for seventh overall - suffered a rough final 18 holes of action as he fired a 78 en route to finishing tied for 38th overall with a combined score of 217 (69-70-78). In his first two rounds of action - Woolf notched a 68 in the first round followed by a 70 in the second round.
Franklin Corpening (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) finished one stroke back of his teammate with a final tournament score of 218 (74-73-71) en route to tying for 43rd overall while Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) notched a 61st-place showing with a tournament tally of 221 (74-71-76).
James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.) notched an eight-over-par score of 224 (74-77-73) en route to finishing 71st overall in his third tournament of the season.
San Diego State captured the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic with a three-round score of 841 while California (844), Texas (844), Oregon (855) and Pacific (862) rounded out the top-five.
"We came into the day in fourth place, and we got an opportunity to play in the final pair - which was a good sign because it's been some time since that's happened for us. We were able to play with San Diego State - who is one of the best teams in the conference - so we will hopefully be in a similar situation at the end of the season," added Montigel.
The Frogs will be back in action National Invitational Tournament held at the Tucson National Golf Resort in Tucson, Ariz, on March 23rd-25th.
