FORT COLLINS, Colo.--TCU ran its road winning streak to five games Wednesday evening with a 76-41 victory over Colorado State at Moby Arena. The road streak marks the program's longest since the 2001-02 season. The win, the seventh in a row overall and ninth in the last 10 games for the Lady Frogs, moved the squad to 17-9 on the season and 10-2 and Mountain West Conference play. CSU dropped to 2-22 overall and 0-11 in the MWC.
TCU led by only nine points at intermission before pushing its offensive attack into full gear against the Rams in the second half. The Frogs totaled 49 second-half points while shooting a sizzling 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the field in the period.
CSU's final point total marked the fourth time this season TCU allowed 42 points or fewer, establishing a new program record.
Adrianne Ross scored a game-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting to lead TCU. Helen Roden and Danielle Nunn also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Nunn's double-digit game marked her first since the Jan. 9 win over San Diego State.
Lorie Butler-Rayford pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while adding nine points.
Amaka Uzomah had a solid game for the Rams, scoring eight points while leading an impressive team rebounding effort with 10 boards. CSU won the rebounding battle, 46-37, and their 20 offensive rebounds marked a high by a TCU opponent this season.
Leading by nine points at the half, 27-18, TCU scored nine of the first 14 points out of the locker room to take its largest lead at 14 points. Nunn had four points during the stretch, including a layup in transition off a nice feed from Ross that followed a Ram turnover. Micah Garoutte, who finished with five points and a career-high two blocked shots, added three points during the stretch.
TCU pushed its advantage to the 20-point mark for the first time after putting together a 9-0 run over a two-minute period ending at the 14:13 mark. Nunn and Ross each collected layups, while Butler-Rayford later capped the run with her second trey of the evening to put the Frogs up, 42-22.
The Frogs upped their lead to 35 points thanks to another big spurt, this time a 15-0 run covering nearly five minutes. Carter drilled the first of two TCU treys, while Shayla Moore ended the run with another with only 3:01 remaining.
Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the opening 20 minutes of play. CSU shot only 24 percent from the field and committed 15 first-half turnovers, but kept itself in the game by dominating the boards by a 24-14 margin at intermission. TCU shot only 37 percent in the half.
TCU jumped out on top early following a slow offensive start for both teams. The squad put together a 10-1 run after CSU knocked down the opening basket of the game. Ross and Butler-Rayford each drilled early 3's, and Roden gave the squad a 10-3 lead with a mid-range jumper along the baseline just over seven minutes into the contest.
The Frogs held the Rams without a field goal for more than eight minutes until Uzomah recorded a layup, but Roden was able to answer with her third trey on the ensuing possession. Nunn then stole a CSU pass and went coast-to-coast for a layup and a 15-5 lead.
TCU recorded its largest lead of the half after Micaela Younger worked hard down low for a layup that put her team up 24-11.
TCU enjoys a bye in the next rotation of the Mountain West Conference schedule this weekend. The Lady Frogs return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 27, with a visit to Salt Lake City to take on MWC-leading Utah. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST at the Utes' Huntsman Center.
