
Brighiu, Nichols Survive Pre-Qualifying at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla.—TCU sophomores Emanu Brighiu and Zach Nichols each posted victories Sunday in pre-qualifying matches to advance into the qualifying draw at the D'Novo All-American Men's Tennis Championships at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The two Frogs will join senior teammate Kriegler Brink in action Monday during qualifying play.
Brighiu and Nichols each needed three sets to emerge among the 16 seeds that advanced on in the tournament. Brighiu came back after dropping the first set against UT-San Antonio's Rodrigo Morgado, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Nichols upset the draw's No. 3 seed, Tennessee's Davey Sandgren, in a back-and-forth match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2).
Nichols opened the tournament Saturday with wins over UT-Arlington's Brieuc Hammon and Central Florida's Brock Staley, while Brighiu dispatched UC Santa Barbara's Max Taylor and NC State's David Chermak.
Play at the All-American Championships continues Monday with qualifying draw singles play. The doubles portion of the qualifying draw begins Tuesday.
