
Volleyball improves to 6-1 this spring

FORT WORTH, Texas - Two more wins this spring for the TCU Volleyball team in Houston highlighted their latest tournament. The Frogs picked up wins over Alabama and UTEP before dropping a hard-fought battle against Oklahoma. In their three tournaments, the Frogs boast a 6-1 mark. Kourtney Edwards continued to impress with her play in the middle.In their third tournament of the spring, the Frogs headed south to Houston to take part in an event hosted by the Texas Tornados Volleyball Club. In pool play, TCU defeated Alabama by a 2-1 score in their first action of the day. In the second match, the Frogs handed UTEP a 2-0 defeat. Later in the day, the Frogs dropped a tight three-game match to Oklahoma, falling 16-14 in the final game.
The Frogs had outstanding performances from numerous players, highlighted by another fantastic effort by Edwards. She tallied 31 kills and hit .318 on the day, including a .700 percentage against UTEP. Devon Kirk was playing great but unfortunately suffered an injury and was forced to leave the game against Oklahoma. LeMeita Smith came up big as well vs. UTEP, hitting .464. On the defensive side, both Calli Corley and Katelyn Blackwood excelled digging and Mariana Silveira continues to excel with her passing abilities.
TCU returns 10 letterwinners from its 2006 squad that posted its third winning season.
The Frogs will wrap up their spring season on April 28 when they head to Waco, Texas for matches at Baylor.
