Volleyball Drops Road Contest at No. 6 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Playing its 12th ranked matchup of the season, No. 13 TCU fell to No. 6 Arizona State in four sets on Wednesday night inside Desert Financial Arena.
Errors proved costly as the Horned Frogs (16-6, 6-4 Big 12) struggled offensively against the first-place Sun Devils (18-2, 9-0 Big 12). TCU was held to its lowest hitting percentage of the season, finishing with a .060 mark.
In her return home, sophomore Evan Hendrix was a bright spot for the Frogs. The Scottsdale native turned in 17 kills and added nine digs in front of family and friends. Junior Lauren Murphy also had a solid night, racking up nine kills on 21 swings.
After dropping the opening set 25-11, TCU responded to even the match. Hendrix and Murphy propelled the Frogs to an early 6-3 lead. At the media timeout, TCU held a two-point advantage, but a quick 3-0 scoring run helped the Sun Devils tie the match back up at 17 all. Becca Kelley put the Frogs back in front as the first team to 20, and Murphy closed out a gritty 25-22 set win for TCU.
All square at one set apiece, Arizona State swung the momentum back in its favor after an 8-1 run. The Frogs tried to chip away at the lead, but could never pull closer than six points.
Battling to extend the match and force a fifth set, early runs once again gave ASU the advantage. In the end, TCU was unable to claw back, falling 25-17 and dropping the match 3-1.
No. 13 TCU looks to snap a three-match skid on Friday, Oct. 31, at Arizona. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
