FORT WORTH--TCU posted its top shooting performance of the season while running past Coppin State, 85-55, Saturday afternoon at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Lady Frogs shot a season-best 54.7 percent from the field, including 47.4 percent from behind the arc, during the win.The Purple and White (4-5) dominated all facets of the game, winning the rebounding battle (40-30) in addition to holding Coppin State (4-7) to merely 39.4 percent shooting from the field. Saturday marked the first time in five games that the Frogs out-shot their opponent.
Adrianne Ross led the way for TCU with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting for her second 20-point effort of the season. The senior All-American's all-around skills were on display Saturday, as she added season highs with eight rebounds (team high) and six assists. Ross scored 10 of her points during the first three and one-half minutes of the second half.
Three other Frogs also scored in double figures, including Lorie Butler-Rayford, who totaled 12 points, Micaela Younger, who had 11, and Emily Carter (10 points). Carter reached double digits for the second straight game while drilling a pair of 3-pointers and going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Moneka Knight helped direct TCU's efficient shooting performance with a team season-high eight assists against the Eagles. She passed former Frog and current assistant coach Tricia Payne to move into the No. 8 position on the program's career assists chart with her second helper of the contest.
Guards Rashida Suber and Shalamar Oakley each scored in double figures to lead Coppin State. Suber also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
TCU ran out to a 48-17 lead by the end of the first half, the 10th-largest halftime lead in program history. The squad shot 61.3 percent from the field in the stanza and recorded three separate runs where it scored at least nine straight points.
The Frogs opened the game scoring on its first four possessions to take an early 9-2 lead just over two minutes into the game. Butler-Rayford, Helena Sverrisdottir and Knight each cashed in layups on TCU's first three trips down the floor, while Knight drilled a trey on the ensuing possession.
After the Eagles responded with four points of their own, the Frogs put together a 26-3 run to push the lead to 18, 35-9, by the midpoint of the first half. Ross scored nine points during the stretch, and Emily Carter hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to finish off the stretch.
Ross helped the Frogs continue to attack in the second half by scoring 10 of the team's first 13 points in the period's first three and one-half minutes. TCU made eight of nine field goal attempts to open the half.
TCU will be idle for all of next week before traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for a Dec. 16 matchup with Florida. The contest, which is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. CST, will be televised on a regional basis by Sun Sports, a Florida FSN affiliate.
