TULSA, Okla. - TCU men's tennis player Cosmin Cotet won his second match in the singles qualifying draw on Tuesday at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships to come within one match of the tournament's main draw.
Cotet, seeded No. 7 in the qualifying draw, defeated Jonas Berg of Mississippi 7-5, 6-2 in the second round. Cotet will face No. 17-24 Jack Baker of South Alabama at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in a match that will determine who advances to the tournament's main draw.
Kriegler Brink's impressive run ended on Tuesday with a hard fought 7-6(0), 1-6, 7-6(5) loss to Clint Bowles of Florida State. Brink had won four consecutive matches in straight sets to advance from the prequalifying draw to the second round of the qualifying draw.
In doubles qualifying action, the TCU duo of Zach Nichols and Adrian Simon fell just short to North Carolina's Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy by a score of 9-8 in the opening round.
"I'm really pleased with how Cosmin is playing," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We got a little unlucky in Kriegler's match and the doubles match, and we just need to step it up and keep working. It's just the process of trying to get better."
Brink and Cotet, ranked No. 22 nationally in doubles, will compete in the opening round of the doubles main draw on Wednesday.
