Golf Digest ranks TCU as 13th-best golf school nationally

FORT WORTH, Texas - In Golf Digest's September 2006 issue, the magazine has selected TCU as the nation's 13th-best school regardless of division to attend for men's golf. TCU, which moved up three spots from last year's ranking, was the highest-rated school in the state of Texas as well as the top-rated university in the Mountain West Conference.
Five criteria formed the basis of the rankings: a college golf team's adjusted scoring average (40 percent of total), player growth while on the team (19.5 percent), coaches/facilities (14.5 percent), academics (14 percent) and climate (12 percent). The Horned Frog golf program averaged an 81.400 rating over the five categories, while UCLA placed first at 88.462.
Golf Digest's "golf first" category was based on where the best junior players, those who hope to play professionally after college, should attend. The schools chosen provide the best facilities and competition, and are training grounds for future tour pros. This marked the second year that Golf Digest has done a ranking of the programs.
In addition to No. 13 TCU, four other Mountain West Conference schools were tabbed to the top-50 list. UNLV (No. 21), San Diego State (No. 25), BYU (No. 29) and New Mexico (No. 40) were also honored by the magazine.
In 19 years under head coach Bill Montigel, the Horned Frogs have made 17 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Regionals and have reached the NCAA Championships 10 times. In addition, TCU has won seven conference championships and Montigel has been named league coach of the year on six occasions. Since the 2000-01 season, the Frogs have won an impressive 11 team tournament titles and have had five different golfers named to All-America teams.
