
No. 23 TCU stumbles against South Alabama

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 23 TCU men's tennis team dropped a tough 5-2 decision to South Alabama on Tuesday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Frogs claimed a 1-0 match lead after taking the doubles point. The tandem of senior Jacopo Tezza and freshman Kriegler Brink finished first with an 8-4 victory over Jake Baker and Robert Hodel. Sophomores Cosmin Cotet and Andrei Mlendea clinched the doubles point for TCU with a 9-7 victory at court No. 3 over Sam Huffman and Filip Kricka.
TCU pushed its lead to 2-0 when Tezza defeated Marek Sramek 6-0, 6-2 on court No. 4.
South Alabama was able to climb back into the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory by Hodel over senior Jordan Freitas at No. 5.
The match knotted at 2-2 when Baker unseated Mlendea 6-1, 7-6 at No. 2 and the Jaguars claimed the lead when Tucker defeated Abreu 7-6, 6-2 on court No. 1.
South Alabama clinched the match when R. J. Nagel defeated Brink 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
With the loss, TCU fell to 6-1 on the season. The team returns to action on Saturday when it heads to Tulsa, Okla. Start time is scheduled for noon.
