TULSA, Okla. - No. 23 TCU men's tennis suffered a 4-3 defeat to No. 55 Tulsa on Saturday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Frogs set the tone early by claiming victories in all three doubles matches.
The senior tandem of Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas notched an 8-4 victory over Lucques Maasdorp and Ricardo Soriano at No. 1. Sophomores Andrei Mlendea and Cosmin Cotet defeated Arnau Brugues and Andy Connelly 8-5 at No. 2. Freshman Kriegler and senior Jacopo Tezza prevailed 8-4 at No. 3 over Aleksander Charpantidis and Ross Cunningham.
Abreu recorded a win at court No. 2 over Federico Soriano 6-4, 6-1 to up his season record to 3-3 in singles. The Barquisimeto, Venezuela, product sits at 5-3 in doubles play after Saturday's victory.
Tezza, the reigning Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, also picked up a win in singles play with a 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-2 victory over R. Soriano at court No. 4. He is now 7-0 in singles play.
TCU returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Stillwater, Okla., to battle Oklahoma State.
