Wyoming silences Frogs in 3-0 victory

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The TCU Horned Frog volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (14-30, 22-30, 22-30) defeat to Wyoming in their final regular season match. Calli Corley led the team defensively with 14 digs, while LeMeita Smith led the team with seven kills. Agi Nemeth pitched in with four kills and three block assists.After a brief 2-1 lead in game one, the Frogs quickly found themselves with an uphill battle. A 5-0 run by the Cowgirls gave them a lead they would never relinquish. The Frogs could never string two points together until Wyoming already had a commanding 16-7 lead. Smith picked up three kills in the set to lead the Frog hitters.
The Frogs picked up 10 kills in the set and dug 11 balls. The Cowgirls picked up six aces in the set and hit .576 as a team, committing just one attacking error in winning game one 30-14.
Game two featured a tight affair through the first 26 points. Neither team could gain more than a two point advantage. Trailing 5-3, TCU rattled off three straight points to take a 6-5 lead thanks to an Anna Vaughn kill and an ace. Wyoming stormed back to take an 11-10 lead, but Smith came through with a kill to knot the game again.
With the game tied at 13, Wyoming went on a 5-0 run to pick up an 18-13 lead, but an Agi Nemeth kill ended the run. A block by Kourtney Edwards and Emily Allen made it a two-point contest, 18-16, but another 4-0 run killed the Frog momentum. The Cowgirls withstood a late Frog rally to claim the game two win by a 30-22 score.
A 10-0 run by the Cowgirls to open up game three erased any thoughts of a repeat of the Frogs first match-up against Wyoming. The Frogs made a late push in the set, pulling within four thanks to a 5-0 run. Nemeth tallied three kills in the set, mixed around a Nemeth and Edwards block and a kill from Allen. A service error ended the rally and the Cowgirls won the set 30-22.
The Frogs fall to 17-14 overall and finish Mountain West Conference play with a record of 5-11. They will learn what seed they will earn in the upcoming postseason tournament after the completion of Saturday's Mountain West Conference contests. The tournament is set to begin Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas.
