The Rundown:
The Lady Frogs started day three of camp with high intensity, said TCU head coach Jeff Mittie. The players hit the court at approximately 1:30 p.m. for a Sunday afternoon session at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Basketball Complex. The Frogs will be back on the court Monday at 2:45 p.m.
"We did really well at the start of the practice," Mittie said. "Our main objective is to get better each day and I thought today was pretty good."
First Day of Scrimmage:
The Frogs concluded practice with a 10-minute full-court scrimmage, sliced into two increments. Junior Lorie Butler-Rayford and the Purple team dominated the first part of the scrimmage. Butler-Rayford, a junior from Inglewood, Calif., sank two smooth jumpers from the outside and made a free throw for the team's first five points.
"Lorie has worked really hard on her shot," Mittie said. "She has greatly improved and could be a key component of our offense once she gets in better shape."
Also on the Purple squad, junior Adrianne Ross had a respectable day. She converted a steal into a breakaway jam as the Purple team pushed away with the lead. Minutes later, she grabbed her own rebound off a missed jumper and drained the shot. Ross concluded the afternoon with the team's final points as she sunk an outside shot at the buzzard.
"Ross is a veteran and I expect those kinds of shots from her," Mittie said. "I was pleased with the overall performance of the Purple team at times. However, we still have a lot of work to do."
Quote of the day:
"The last I heard, basketball games were 40 minutes!" said Mittie to his team, in reference to players looking winded after 10 minutes of scrimmaging.
Briefly:
The Lady Frogs are 20 days away from their exhibition debut against Lake Truck Lines (WNBA) . . . Beginning Monday, GoFrogs.com - the official Web site of TCU Athletics - will introduce fans to a different women's basketball player each day.
