FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will compete in the fifth-annual Baylor Invitational tournament, which will be held at the Baylor Tennis Center beginning on Saturday. The tournament was originally scheduled for last weekend, but the threat of Hurricane Rita led to its postponement.
"I am very pleased with our pre-tournament training," said head coach Joey Rive. "Our conditioning program has been fantastic and I feel like our guys are in the best shape I have ever seen them in." The guys are playing well and I believe we will have some guys emerge from the pack this weekend. I know the guys are anxious to start playing and prove themselves this semester for starting spots in January.
The Frogs send Radu Barbu, Robert Gallman, Jordan Freitas, Andrew Ulrich and Craig Stopa to compete in the weekend tournament.
The tournament field includes players from 10 schools, four of which are Big 12 schools. TCU, Baylor, the host institution, Texas, Nebraska, Wichita State, UT San Antonio, Texas A&M, Santa Clara, UT Arlington, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi will participate.
Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza will travel to Tulsa, Okla., on Monday to compete in the All-America Qualifying and Main Draw.
"Rafa(el) and Jacopo are off to a great start in their practices and thus far have proven themselves as the captains and leaders of this year team", said Rive. "I am looking forward to this event in Tulsa, and anticipate some great results against the nation's elite."
