Frogs sweep North Texas

The TCU volleyball team defeated North Texas in three games (30-25, 30-25, 30-25) to improve to 10-4 on the season. Sophomore Talaya Whitfield set a new career-high with 16 kills and recorded her third double-double of the season, digging 13 balls.
Sophomore LeMeita Smith led the Horned Frogs in the opening game with six kills while hitting .600. Whitfield and sophomore Anna Vaughn combined for eight kills and half a block. The Frogs' defense held the opposition to .061 hitting in the first game and pushed TCU to a 30-25 win.
Refusing to relinquish offensive pressure, the Frogs gained control of the match with Smith and Whitfield leading the charge. As a team, the Frogs were hitting .333 through two games and tallied five blocks. North Texas' Catherine Coffey was the offensive leader for her team with five kills and hit .556.
TCU was able to take games two and three by the same score as game one, resulting in the match sweep. Vaughn was held to single-digit kills and did not lead the team in the category for the first time this season, but tied for the team lead in service aces with sophomore Loren Barry (2).
North Texas tied the Frogs in the block column, but made 24 errors versus the 17 made by TCU.
The Purple and White head into conference play this weekend when it travels to Provo, Utah on Saturday to take on the BYU Cougars and finishes with a trip to Salt Lake City on Saturday to take on Utah. Match times are slated for 8 p.m.(CDT)
