TCU volleyball completed a sweep of Grambling State (30-8, 30-18, 30-18) in the final game of the Nike/Courtyard Marriott Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Senior Hayley Harmon recorded her first double-digit kill performance of the season and junior Anna Vaughn and sophomore Talaya Whitfield were named to the all-tournament team.
"I thought that we were very sound in the first game," states Harmon, who finished the match with 11 kills. "We got a chance to work on a lot of game situations and prepare for conference play next week."
The Frogs came out at a blistering pace and took an early 11-2 advantage, prompting the Tigers to take a timeout. Vaughn was perfect in the first game, tallying five kills on as many attempts. Agi Nemeth, making her first appearance of the weekend, made three kills and two digs. TCU never looked back in game one and ran away with a 30-8 victory.
As a team, TCU hit .500 in game one and made four aces.
Game two was closer than the first, with Grambling capitalizing on seven errors from the Purple and White. Vaughn and Harmon combined for 10 of the Frogs 15 kills to give TCU a 2-0 match advantage.
The Frogs were extremely active at the nets, blocking five balls through two games.
In total control of the match, TCU was able to put away Grambling in game three to complete the sweep. Freshman Gabi McHugh came into the match and made five kills. The freshman middle blocker also recorded three service aces.
With 17 aces as a team, the Frogs tied a team-high for aces in a three-game match.
With the win, TCU improved to 9-4 on the season. The team will face North Texas on Tuesday at the University Rec Center. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
