FORT WORTH, Texas - With 1:40 remaining in the second overtime, a Northwestern State defender hauled down Moran Lavi right in front of the goal giving the Frogs a penalty kick. Lavi capitalized on the opportunity, beating the Demons' goalkeeper low for her second goal of the season. The Frogs dominated the match offensively, outshooting the Demons 22-5 but couldn't find the back of the net. Katy Buchanan made the only save she needed to in the first overtime to record her first shutout of the season.
The chances for the Frogs came early and often in a match they dominated from start to finish. Lavi found herself wide open minutes into the contest, but her shot sailed just wide of the goal.
TCU looked to have the early 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game, but the goal was disallowed because of a hand ball. Casey Glass took the initial shot that was deflected right to a charging Karissa Hill who blasted the ball over the keepers head. After some discussion, the play was ruled a foul and the goal disallowed.
Minutes later the Frogs just missed a golden opportunity to take the lead. Hill came streaking down the left side and took the tough-angle shot that just missed connecting with the foot of Lavi who was staring at a wide open net.
In the half, the Frogs outshot the Demons 8-2, including a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The second half played out much the same as the first. TCU had multiple opportunities as they controlled the play. The Demon defense did all they could to keep the game scoreless, forcing the Frogs into taking tough angle shots that went high or wide. TCU held an 11-4 advantage in shots, but they could not get the go-ahead goal.
Kim Thompson and Bjarnveig Birgisdottir played outstanding halves for TCU, peppering the Demon defense with shots.
The overtimes were dominated by the Frogs as they outshot the Demons 6-1 in the two periods. TCU finally hit paydirt in the second overtime when they were awarded the penalty kick.
With the win, the Frogs improve to 3-3-0 on the season. TCU will wrap up the three-game homestand on Friday when they host Pepperdine. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal.
