
Erna Sigursdottir Selected To Play For Icelandic National Team

FORT WORTH, Texas - Two Horned Frog women's soccer players are having a successful summers as Erna Sigursdottir and Katy Buchanan will be playing on big stages in the upcoming weeks. Sigursdottir has been named to the Icelandic National Team, which will participate in a friendly match against the United States this week. Buchanan is a goalkeeper for the Dallas Texans club team and helped lead the team to the South Central Regional championship. The Texans have advanced to the national championship bracket, which will begin play Wednesday, July 27.
Sigursdottir joined the Horned Frogs this spring and will be a freshman in the upcoming 2005 season. She will be making her eighth appearance with the national team. The match between Iceland and the United States is slated for Sunday at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
Buchanan will begin her junior campaign this season. She was the Frogs' starting goalkeeper in 2003 as a freshman and split time in goal in 2004. She became the first Horned Frog to earn Conference USA Defender of the Week accolades, garnering the honor on Oct. 20, 2003. The Dallas Texans will compete in a round robin tournament with the winners of the three other national regions. The top two teams will compete for the national championship on July 31. The tournament will take place in Orlando, Fla.
