Fort Worth, Texas - TCU women's rifle head coach Karen Monez announced the signing of three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent. Former Frog Celeste Green will also return to Fort Worth after spending a year at Angelina Junior College in her hometown of Lufkin, Texas. Kristine Tisinger, Aida Garcia, and Tanya Gorin will join the squad at the beginning of the fall semester.
Green returns as one of the most accomplished shooters in school history and will bring a wealth of experience and success to a relatively young team. A shooter of international reputation, Green helped TCU to a 2003 NCAA Sectionals title in her freshman year, capturing both the individual air rifle and individual smallbore crowns. As a sophomore, she led the Frogs to a second-place finish in the NCAA Sectionals, finishing second individually in smallbore and seventh in air rifle.
Prior to her time at TCU, Green shot with the Junior World Championship Team and the Junior Olympic All-Star Team, as well as a host of other internationally acclaimed squads. In one of her most impressive performances, she finished 13th in the women's junior 50-meter prone at the 2002 International Sport Shooting Federation World Championships in Lahti, Finland.
"Celeste returns to TCU with the shooting expertise, competitive drive and leadership potential to lead a young and growing women's rifle team," Monez said.
A local product, Tisinger will come to TCU after lettering in rifle her senior year at North Mesquite High School. As a senior, she was named to the Honor Roll and given the American Legion Scholastic Award for her academic success. During her junior year, Tisinger earned the Military Order of the World Wars Leadership Award and received the Daedalian Achievement Award for being recognized as an outstanding cadet in her school's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp program.
"Kristine is a product of one of the top Texas high school three-position air rifle programs," Monez said. "She should make an easy transition to smallbore."
Garcia, a Brownsville, Texas native, will join this year's squad with a great deal of tournament experience already under her belt after lettering in rifle the last two years at Homer Hanna High School. In 2004, she finished in first place at the 12th Annual Brigade Shooting Championships and ninth place at the 2004 Western Region Championships. The year prior, Garcia earned High Shooter distinction at the Laredo Skills Meet, the Porter Skills Meet, and at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Skills Meet.
"Aida is also a product of a Texas high school three-position air rifle program," Monez said. "Aida has expressed a willingness and desire to work hard to achieve her shooting goals."
Already a veteran of competitive shooting, Gorin comes to TCU from Mesa, Arizona. In 2004, she competed in the National Junior Olympic Championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. She participated in the 10-meter air rifle and 50-meter three-position events. Prior to that, she shot in the Arizona Junior Olympics where she earned the gold medal in air rifle and the silver medal in smallbore.
"As a member of the Arizona State Junior Rifle Team, Tanya has competed at the national championship level on numerous occasions," Monez said. "She joins the TCU rifle team with a solid background in highpower. She has proven she can be a top competitor."
