
TCU men's tennis grabs regional rankings

FORT WORTH, Texas - Three players from the TCU men's tennis team earned a spot in the top 30 ITA Southwest Regional rankings released on Friday. Seniors Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza earned the No. 12 and No. 20 rankings respectively, while junior Radu Barbu secured the No. 27 spot.
Abreu, hailing from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, grabbed the No. 12 spot after a strong showing at the ITA Regionals on Oct. 22, and advancing to the round of 32. The senior also knocked off two ranked opponents in Michael Venus (No. 106) of UT-Austin and Konstatin Haerle (No. 105) of Rice at the Racquet Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 14-15.
Similar to Abreu, Tezza found his way to the round of 32 at the ITA Regionals
The duo of Abreu and Tezza nabbed the No. 5 spot in doubles, after holding the No. 34 national ranking during the fall season.
A product of Pitesti, Romania, Barbu rounds out the TCU rankings by holding the No. 27 spot. Barbu also found his way to the rankings in doubles play as he and partner Jordan Freitas landed the No. 9 ranking.
The men's tennis team begins the 2006 season on Jan. 20, when they head to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Rice Invitational.
