
TCU divers shine on day one of UT Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 1, 2005) - TCU's men's and women's swimming and diving teams had strong showings in the highly competitive University of Texas Invitational on Thursday afternoon at the Texas Swim Center. TCU's divers turned in the top performances for the Horned Frogs on day one of the three-day meet.
Women's diver Kelly Seely earned the top finish for the Frogs, as she placed fifth on the 1-meter board. TCU's November Female Student-Athlete of the Month had a 6-dive score of 248.00.
On the men's side, Kelly McCain continued his impressive season by finishing among the top-10 in the 3-meter event. McCain placed sixth with a final-round score of 290.55.
Erica Tate had the top individual performances in the pool for TCU. Tate took 23rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.70 and placed 24th in the 100-yard butterfly after swimming a 57.76 in the finals. Teammate Leann Cathcart grabbed 38th in the 50 free (24.13).
Men's swimmer Yousif Del Valle landed in 23rd position in the 100 fly with a time of 52.75. In addition, TCU sophomore Jonathon Berrettini placed 40th in the 50-free (21.37).
TCU's 200-yard freestyle relay teams had strong swims as well. The women's quartet of Tate, Karen Sandifer, Emily Duerringer and Cathcart placed 11th out of 18 teams with a time of 1:35.57. Meanwhile, the men's free relay squad (Scott McCracken, Guillermo Ramirez, Yousif Del Valle and Berrettini) placed 12th among 20 squads (1:23.31).
The Frogs will return to action Friday morning with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. Finals will follow later in the day starting at 6 p.m.
