Horned Frog volleyball heads to Las Vegas

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU volleyball team heads to Las Vegas, Nev., on Tuesday to take on Air Force in the opening round of the Mountain West Conference tournament.
Currently 15-17 overall and 3-13 in MWC play, the Horned Frogs come into the conference tournament after dropping back-to-back road contests on Nov. 15 and 16 to close out the regular season.
On Nov. 15, TCU traveled to Fort Collins, Colo., to take on the Colorado State Rams. In the first meeting of the season, the Frogs defeated the Rams in five games, after trailing 2-0, at the University Rec Center on Nov. 25. TCU was led by Talaya Whitfield's double-double (16 digs, 14 kills) and 15 kills from junior Anna Vaughn.
Colorado State evened the season series by downing the Frogs in three games on Nov. 15 at Moby Arena.
On the following evening, Wyoming was also able to tie its season series with TCU after winning in three games at home. The Frogs rallied behind 15 kills and a .452 hitting percentage from sophomore LeMeita Smith to take the Oct. 11 victory in the first meeting between the two schools of the season.
Air Force currently sits at 5-27 and 1-15 MWC and split its season series with TCU. In the first meeting, the Purple and White won in four games as freshman Nirelle Hampton recorded her first career triple-double and only the second in Horned Frogs' history. The Gainesville, Fla., product recorded 41 assists, 15 digs and 11 kills and Vaughn recorded 19 kills while hitting .529
The Falcons exacted revenge in a 3-0 victory on the Colorado campus, led by Kristin Hamlett's 16 kills.
TCU and Air Force are knotted at two in the all-time series that dates back to 1998. Each team won on its home court.
The Frogs look to put an end to an eight-match skid and finish its inaugural season in the Mountain West Conference strong.
