My full name is Ashley Lyn Davis and I'm a co-captain on the 2005-06 team. I'm a junior guard from San Antonio, Texas, however I redshirted my freshman year. I attended Taft High School and played with many other talented athletes, and I played under coach Pam Owens, who now coaches at the University of Tennessee.
I have had a lot of support throughout my developmental years with basketball, and I believe that I owe it all to my parents, Lynwood, Sr., and Mary Davis. I can always look in the stands and see my parents supporting me, which I believe is one of the best feelings in the world. They play a huge role in my life and I consider myself very lucky.
Along with my parents, I have an older sister, Kimberly, and a younger brother, Lynwood, Jr. They have also showed great support for me, and I have realized how important my family is to me since moving away from home.
I will be graduating in December with a Bachelor of Business Administration in business management and will then pursue my Master of Education in educational administration. I feel that upon graduating from TCU, I will have accomplished my biggest goal in life. I realize how many people never get the opportunity to attend or graduate from college, and I made a promise to my Mom that I would "get that piece of paper" and I intend on keeping it.
I have many great memories since becoming a TCU women's basketball player. My most memorable moment, however, is not like everyone else's. I do take pride in all of the conference championships, rings, NCAA Tournament appearances and individual honors we have won. But, my most memorable moment came when we visited Will Rogers Coliseum on Sept. 8, 2005, to visit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Inside we found everything from infant babies to elderly adults. I sat and talked with a lot of kids and as a team, we helped with homework, played basketball, donated food/clothes and other things. After leaving, I felt empty inside and couldn't imagine losing everything like they just had. As a team, I think we all realized how lucky we all were and saw how those individuals rallied together to survive.
We as a team are going to take that drive and determination that they had into this year and use it on the court and in the classroom. We are a team full of talent and I believe that we will make this one of the most successful seasons in TCU history!
