Three members of the TCU men's tennis team appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) fall rankings released Friday morning. Senior Fabrizio Sestini came in at No. 73 in singles, while newcomer Jordan Freitas and junior Jacopo Tezza were tabbed 56th in doubles. TCU begins fall competition at the Baylor Intercollegiate later this month. The complete schedule is set to be released next week.
Sestini posted a 23-8 record for the Horned Frogs last year playing at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. He was 17-4 overall in dual matches and 11-2 at three singles. The Rome, Italy, native recorded a 4-4 mark versus ranked opponents and ended the year with five consecutive wins, three of which came in the NCAA Tournament. He was named to the Conference USA Second Team for the third year in a row in 2004 and ended the season ranked 34th in doubles with junior Rafael Abreu.
Freitas, a transfer from Tyler Junior College, finished 2004 ranked third in singles and was No. 1 in doubles. His first season saw similar results, as he ended at Nos. 4 and 1 in singles and doubles. Tyler was the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) champions in both of Freitas' two years with the program. Freitas, who is originally from Eastbourne, England, was also named an ITA All-American in singles and doubles in 2003 and 2004.
Tezza won a team-high 26 singles matches in 2003-04 and lost only 10. He was 16-5 in dual match play and 16-4 at No. 4 singles. In doubles action, the Verona, Italy, native went 17-13 overall and was 15-7 in duals playing exclusively with 2004 senior Hector Almada. The duo was used mainly at the No. 2 slot and went 14-5. Tezza earned a spot on last year's C-USA Third Team for his exploits.
