NORMAN, Okla. - Senior Adam Meyer, who helped guide the Horned Frogs to a 20th-place finish at the 2004 NCAA Championships, has become the 13th All-American in TCU golf history, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced today. Meyer, who landed on PING's All-America Third Team, is the fourth different TCU golfer in the past three years to earn national distinction.
Meyer, a two-time first-team All-Conference USA performer, was tabbed as Conference USA's Golfer of the Year in 2004 after leading the Horned Frogs to their fourth straight league title, a feat which tied an all-sport school record. At the C-USA Championships, Meyer dominated the field, grabbing medalist honors at the 54-hole event by nine strokes. The tournament victory was his second as a Horned Frog player and the fourth of his collegiate career.
It was an award-filled campaign for the senior. Last week, Meyer was one of three Frogs voted to PING's All-South Central Region team. In April, he was named TCU's 2003-04 Co-Male Athlete of the Year and was Golf World's National College Golfer of the Week.
He closed the season with a team-best 71.82 stroke average. It was a career-best average for Meyer, who had a stroke average of better than 72 each of his last three college years. In 2003-04, he carded 12 sub-70 rounds and placed among the top-20 finishers in nine of the Frogs' 13 events. He finished the season rated 25th individually in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings system.
A native of China Spring, Texas, Meyer previously earned honorable mention All-America honors as a sophomore for Baylor. The 13 All-American golfers in TCU history have combined for a total of 18 honors. Meyer is the ninth TCU player to ever make one of the three All-America teams, while the remaining members earned honorable mention acclaim.
