He's Baaack
Bill Montigel returns for his 15th season at the helm of the men's golf program. Now in his 22nd year on the TCU Athletic department's staff, he was recently voted the Chair of the TCU Head Coaches Committee.
Playing the Field
Every year the TCU men's golf schedule ranks among the nation's most difficult. In addition to #15 TCU, this year's Ridges Intercollegiate field includes: #3 Clemson, #8 Wake Forest, #9 East Tennessee State, #12 Southern California, #14 South Carolina, #16 Oklahoma, #19 Auburn and #22 Houston, as well as Arkansas, Kansas, North Carolina, North Florida, Pepperdine and Tennessee.
No Scuffles at Ridges
TCU claimed the team title at The Ridges in 2000 with an overall score of 851 (-13). TCU was one of just two teams to post sub-par scores at the event. The #11 Frogs knocked off 13 schools, including #1 Clemson.
Hardly an Amateur Performance
Senior Andy Doeden advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur in August as the field's 38th seed. He moved into the round of 32 before losing a 1 Up decision to Camilo Villegas. Doeden became just the second Frog, joining PGA Tour professional J.J. Henry, to reach the round of 32 in the last decade.
They Built This City
TCU seniors Bret Guetz and Steve Shuert tied for 3rd place at the Fort Worth City Men's Championships over the Labor Day weekend. Junior Adam Rubinson, who claimed the individual title in 2000, placed 11th this year.
U-S-A, U-S-A
After winning the WAC championship three times in their five years in the league, the Horned Frogs are moving into Conference USA during the 2001-02 season. At #15, TCU currently is the highest of C-USA's three rated schools. UAB, who is #21, and Houston, #22 are the other ranked teams in the conference.
