ATHENS, Georgia (May 25, 2001) -- TCU men's tennis senior Trace Fielding fell to No. 18 K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in Athens, Ga. on the University of Georgia campus. The match was played indoors on the Hopkins Indoor Courts at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex due to inclement weather.
Fielding won the first set 6-4, but dropped the second by the same score. In the third, Fielding went up a break at 3-1, but Hippensteel responded with a break of his own and then broke Fielding once more to win the third set 6-4.
Fielding will now compete in the doubles portion of the championships with sophomore partner Jimmy Haney against Mississippi's 13th-ranked pair of James Shortall and Kristofer Stahlberg. The two doubles teams faced each other in the opening round of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash. earlier this year. They did not finish their match.
