Trace Fielding Advances To Second Round Of Singles Championships

ATHENS, Georgia (May 24, 2001) -- TCU men's tennis senior Trace Fielding, ranked 43rd nationally, won his opening round match at the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships being held on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Ga. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Senior Esteban Carril was also scheduled to play in the tournament, but decided to withdraw due to an ailing left quad injury. He was replaced by Rameez Junaid of Auburn.
Fielding defeated senior Eddie Coates of Vanderbilt in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Coates came into the match ranked 45th in the nation.
Fielding's next opponent will be junior K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford, whom he has never played in his career at TCU. Hippensteel won his opening round match over Tiago Ruffoni of Auburn in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Hippensteel is ranked No. 18 in the nation.
