FORT WORTH, Texas - More than 150 TCU Lady Frog basketball fans were on hand at the team's annual tipoff banquet on Tuesday night at the Dee J. Kelly Center on the TCU campus. The highlight of the evening was a motivating speech given by women's basketball legend and keynote speaker Nancy Lieberman.
Lieberman, a two-time college player of the year and former WNBA guard, is currently a commentator for ESPN and will broadcast the TCU/Houston game on ESPN2 on January 13. TCU is one of three schools (Tennessee and Connecticut) that was able to secure Lieberman at their 2001 banquets.
"I'm a fan of TCU," Lieberman told the players during the event. "You have the chance to put the fingerprint on the history of this program. You can push the bar higher at TCU and make some young girls in the future work mighty hard to be Lady Frogs."
"Obviously, we were thrilled to have Nancy come speak to us," said TCU head coach Jeff Mittie. "She is an outstanding speaker and motivator. Our kids were ready to lace up their shoes from the minute she started speaking. We really appreciated her time as well as her thoughts on TCU and the state of women's basketball in general."
In addition to dinner and the speech by "Lady Magic," a tape introducing each of the 2001-02 Lady Frogs was played. Mittie also spoke at the event, telling stories about many of his freshmen and reiterating his excitement about the upcoming season. The banquet was emceed by Brian Estridge, "The Voice of TCU Athletics."
