"I'm very encouraged about our performace these past few days. We have more depth and our will to win is greater than ever before. I think this might be the best team I've ever had (at TCU)," notes Coach Rubinson.
The women's team is coming off a 1999 season in which they finished 9-11. They began last season with a 7-3 mark through their first 10 games, and entered the NSCAA Central Region Rankings at ninth on Sept. 20, after defeating Oklahoma 1-0. From there, the Frogs struggled through WAC play posting a 2-6 mark last year. Seven of the women's 11 losses came against teams that competed in the 1999 NCAA Championship Tournament.
Coach Rubinson pointed out that the critical factors that would determine the team's success would be goal keeping and defense.
"We need quality goal keeping and our girls have to want to play defense for our team to be successful. We must also stay healthy and figure out how to win because our team is still unproven," said Coach Rubinson.
This season the women will be without junior goalkeeper Keith-Ann Wagner who was seriously injured in a car accident this summer.
The women will begin training at 8:00 a.m. and again at 4:00 p.m. starting this Friday. The TCU Men's Soccer team will report on Thursday, August 17, and begin their twice-daily practices at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on Friday, August 18.
The TCU Women's Soccer team will play their first match on Friday, August 25, in Houston against the Houston Cougars at 8:00 p.m. Their first home game is scheduled for Sunday, August 27, at 6:00 p.m. This will mark the first official TCU match played in the new Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
