Outlook
Loren Barry[apos]s versatilty will be useful to the Horned Frogs in their new conference. Her ability to play setter, defensive specialist and outside hitter will shape her to become one of the best all-around players the Frogs have to offer.
Freshman Season (2004)
Playing in all 32 matches, starting 22, and starting libero in four, Barry spent the non-conference season as the primary setter for the Frogs. Her first standout performance came against Harvard, when she dished out 71 assists - the most in a four-game match all season - and tallied 13 digs. She found a new niche at the dawn of the conference season, when she started at libero for the Tulane and Southern Miss wins; she tallied her lone 20+ dig match against the Green Wave with 21 scoops. She again picked up the reigns at setter when junior Erin Ludeke had a season-ending knee injury two weeks before the conference tournament. She captained the Frogs to wins in four of their final five matches. She tallied double-doubles in six matches during the season with 10 matches totaling double-digit digs. Her 833 assists place her eighth in a single season and fourth-most in a career, while her 7.71 assists per game are 10th most in a season and fifth most in a career.
High School
Barry, a three-year letterwinner at Wilson High School in Long Beach, played for Susan Pescar helping her team to the CIF-SS championship in 2001, the CIF Southern California championship and state finals in 2002, the CIF-SS semifinals in 2003, and a pair of Moore League championships in 2002 and 2003. She earned all-Moore League honors and was named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram 'Dream Team' her junior and senior seasons. In Barry[apos]s senior campaign she was also named Player of the Week by the Press-Telegram and L.A. Times. During her prep career, she earned her team[apos]s 'Impact Player of the Year' in 2002 and 2003, 'Best Defensive Player' in 2001, and was the junior varsity MVP and captain in 2000.
In addition to prep volleyball, Barry also played club and beach volleyball. She played opposite, setter and left-side for the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club under Joy McKienzie from 2000-04. Barry was a five-time Junior Olympic participant, which included winning the 2003 17-open silver medal. In 2001 and 2002, the team was a Junior Olympic quarterfinalist. On the beach Barry won the 2003 Beach Junior Olympics Under-21 Division championship with partner Alli Dillon. She has also participated in several AVP qualifiers with her sister Stephanie.
