TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer announced the hiring of Bryce Williams as director of volleyball operations for the indoor team and assistant coach for the beach team on Friday, July 8, 2016.
Williams came to TCU after spending the last few months as a volunteer assistant coach with the USA Women's Volleyball National Team as they prepare for the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics that will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
While with USA Volleyball, Williams was tasked with doing statistical analysis and video breakdown using Data Volley and Data Video, while also coding and analyzing beach volleyball matches. Williams was also used as a practice player in the gym and created video montages and heat maps for coaches and athletes.
Prior to his time with USA Volleyball, Williams was the assistant coach for one season at Montana where he was in charge of the coordination of video and stats, travel and camps. Williams was responsible for creating the opponent scoring reports each week, helping manage the team offense during matches and served as primary recruiter for setters and liberos. Montana finished 10th in the Big Sky in 2015 and had one all-conference selection in Hannah Sackett who was also named Newcomer of the Year.
Before Montana, Williams had a two-year stint as volunteer assistant coach at Northwestern. Competing in the Big 10, the Wildcats faced some of the best teams in the country on a regular basis and still posted 16-win seasons in both 2013 and 2014. Northwestern had wins over then No. 18 Minnesota and No. 9 Illinois in 2014, and middle blocker Katie Dutchman earned honorable mention AVCA All-America honors. In Williams' first year with the Wildcats, in 2013, Northwestern had three wins over ranked opponents, and outside hitter Stephanie Holthus was named honorable mention All-American.
Williams' coaching career began as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, UC Davis, for four seasons with the women's indoor team. He also played for the UC Davis Men's Club Volleyball team for five years and helped lead his team to back-to-back NCCVL Conference Championships and consecutive top-10 finishes at the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation national tournament in 2011 and 2012. A three-year captain and starting setter, Williams earned Honorable Mention All-America honors and two First Team All-Conference honors.
Williams graduated from UC Davis in 2013 with a bachelor of science in neurobiology, physiology and behavior.
