Nathan Lavery was named to TCU swimming and diving coaching staff entering the 2018-2019 season.
Lavery comes to TCU after serving as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech, where he coached during the 2017-2018 season. Georgia Tech sent five swimmers to the NCAA Championship meets last season.
"Although we had a great pool of candidates, Nathan really stood out to the administration and myself during the process," Head Coach James Winchester said. "He's well-articulated, brings Power Five experience from his time at Georgia Tech and championship experience from his time at Villanova. I know he's excited to be back here in Texas."
Prior to Georgia Tech, Lavery coached at Villanova for five seasons. While on staff at Villanova, the Wildcats won four consecutive women's Big East conference titles. Before arriving in Villanova, Lavery coached in the club ranks with the West Houston Aquatics Team in Houston, Texas. He initially began his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant at his alma mater, Texas A&M.
As a student-athlete, Lavery competed for the Aggies from 2008-11. As a sophomore in 2008, Lavery earned All-America honors with the Aggies' 200 and 400 medley relays, which set school records at the NCAA Championships. As a junior, Lavery scored 41 points individually at the Big 12 Championships and made two NCAA Championships "B" cuts. He placed second at the 2011 Big 12 Championships in the 400 medley relay and finished with a pair of third place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke. Lavery finished the season with three "B" cut times in these events. He still holds university records at Texas A&M.
Lavery, a Port Elizabeth, South Africa, native, graduated from Texas A&M in 2011 with a degree in Psychology.
