TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Jayden Douglas' 400m hurdles title highlighted the final night of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships for TCU track and field as 10 Horned Frogs earned All-Conference honors.
Douglas stood atop the podium in the 400m hurdles, winning convincingly with a new school record time of 49.32. His gold medal marked the second of the weekend for TCU, joining his teammate Irene Jepkemboi who won the javelin throw. The Columbus, Ohio, native became the first Frog to win a conference championship in the 400m hurdles since Jordan Pitts in 2008.
Freshman Bailey Johnson continued to peak at the right time, earning podium finishes in the 100m and 200m sprint double. One hour after running a personal best 11.17 to finish fourth in the 100m, she won silver in the 200m. Her time of 22.61 in the final marked a 1.29 second improvement from her first collegiate race less than two months ago at the Clyde Hart Classic.
Also competing in the 100m, Indya Mayberry took home bronze with a season-best 11.16.
The Frogs were well represented in the men's 400m, placing two on the podium. Ronnie Kendrick found a nice kick down the final stretch to finish fourth with a career-best time of 45.45, which also ranks ninth in program history. His teammate Evander Thomas crossed the line seventh in 46.27.
Georgia Scott raced a pair of finals, turning in a gritty performance to earn a spot on both podiums. She finished eighth in the 1500m and came back out just over an hour later to grab another eighth-place result in the 800m.
TCU's men's 4x100m relay secured a spot on the podium. Adopting a "next man up" mentality pole vaulter Ben Kirbo stepped in to run the anchor leg. Combining with teammates Justin Frater, Colton Conyers and Dominic Byles, the Frogs finished seventh with a 40.51.
In the high jump, Ashvin Balaramana finished sixth overall at his first outdoor championship. The freshman flew over a personal best 2.12m (6-11½), the No. 7 jump in TCU history.
Overall, the TCU men and women finished 11th. The women scored a total of 31 points, while the men capped off the three-day championship with 27.
Next up for the Frogs is the NCAA West First Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 27-30. TCU will send athletes who own a top 48 mark in the west region to compete for a trip to the National Championship Meet.
