Frogs score 10 runs in final three innings
The Rundown
The pitching duo of Tyler Phenow and Tanner Sagouspe were pivotal in helping TCU rally for the win. DBU opened up a 5-1 lead with one out in the sixth. Phenow took over and retired two straight to end the frame. Sagouspe (2-1) came on in the seventh and pitched three hitless innings. He allowed just two base runners and finished his outing with two strikeouts.
TCU got the scoring started on a Chase Brunson infield single in the first. The Patriots responded with two in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. They added a third run in the third and two more in the sixth.
Preston Gamster worked a lead-off walk in the seventh and the comeback was on. He scored two batters later on a Colton Griffin base hit. With one swing of the bat, Sawyer Strosnider tied the game at five with a three-run blast to right.
Walks and hit batters gifted the Frogs three runs and the lead in the eighth. With the bases loaded and one out, Cole Cramer worked a four-pitch walk to give the Frogs the lead. Strosnider was hit by a pitch to drive in his fourth run of the game. A Brunson ground out made it an 8-5 game in favor of TCU.
The Frogs salted the game away with three more runs in the ninth. Jack Bell hit a two-run home run. Colton Griffin tripled and scored on a Cramer base hit to account for the final score.
Cade Nelson started and allowed three runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Nate Stern contributed 2 2/3 scoreless in relief. He struck out three.
