Frogs held to just two hits in the game
TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State took the rubber match of the opening Big 12 Conference series with a 4-0 win over No. 17 TCU Sunday afternoon. The Horned Frogs were held to just six base runners in the game.
The Rundown
The Sun Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second. Back-to-back singles to open the inning had runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly put Arizona State in front.
TCU had a chance to tie the game in the third after Jack Bell's one-out double. He was on third with one out, but was cut down trying to score on a ground ball.
Another lead-off single in the third turned into another Sun Devil run. The lead grew to 2-0 on a two-out single. A one-out home run in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. The final run scored on an eighth-inning home run.
Trever Baumler (0-1) made his first weekend start of the year. He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out two in five innings. Walter Quinn contributed two scoreless with two walks and two strikeouts. Zack James allowed a run on one hit in his lone inning.
