LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU's Elise Dobson and Benjamin Kirbo earned a spot on the podium, and nine other Horned Frogs advanced to finals on Day One of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Competing in her final indoor conference championship meet, Dobson went out with a bang. The senior had a career day in the Pentathlon, finishing sixth and breaking her own school record with 3,999 points. Along the way, she recorded PRs in the shot put (11.76m, 38-7) and long jump (5.71m, 18-8 ¾).
Kirbo found himself on the podium for the third consecutive year at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. He capped off his senior indoor season with a sixth-place result after clearing 5.35m (17-6 ½).
Leading the way for the Frogs on the track was sprinter Indya Mayberry. The defending conference 60m and 200m champion qualified in the top position in both of her signature events for Saturday's finals session. She is joined by London Tucker in the 60m dash, who won her heat and picked up the fifth fastest time on the day.
Also in the sprints was hurdler Amari Kiluvia. The junior ran the third fastest 60m hurdles time on the day (8.19) to secure her spot in the finals.
For the second straight year, Dominic Byles clinched a spot in the 600y final. He recorded a 1:09.70 to snag the eighth position.
In the 400m, TCU saw two Frogs advance to the finals. Tia Williams, the school record holder, grabbed the final spot on the women's side with a 53.25. For the men, Ronnie Kendrick turned in the fifth fastest time in qualifying. His 46.01 was just a quarter-second off his career-best time.
Anastacia Gonzales and Mohamed Kowa each punched their tickets to the 1000m finals. The Distance Frogs carried their success over from the cross country course this fall and are excelling on the track. They both turned in personal best times in the process, but it was Gonzales who also took down the school record in the process, running a 2:45.31. She is seeded third ahead of Saturday's final, and Kowa sits in fifth (2:23.22).
Georgia Scott didn't disappoint in the 800m. In what's been a stellar indoor season so far, she further lowered her career-best time, which ranks No. 2 in the TCU record books (2:03.90).
Finally, Yannik Knobloch was firing on all cylinders in the men's Heptathlon. Through four of the seven events, he has four personal best marks and sits in first place in the overall standings. The sophomore ran a 7.01 60m dash and threw 13.98m (45-10 ½) in the shot put. In the long jump, he flew for the No. 9 leap in school history, going 7.39m (24-3) and cleared 2.04m (6-8 ¼) in the high jump, which ranks fourth all-time for the Frogs.
